The Fens is excellent for family days out. There’s something here for everybody - whatever age, whatever you want to do. Strenuous or relaxing, fun park or quiet park, get over to The Fens. If you have friends and family visiting or want to occupy the children during school holidays, why not enjoy a day or two out in the Lincolnshire Fens. The Butterfly and Wildlife Park Set in 15 acres of land, The Butterfly and Wildlife Park in Long Sutton offers one of the best tropical houses in the UK. As well as Butterflies, the Park has an impressive selection of birds of prey - it is no surprise that it attracts 70,000 visitors a year and a third car park has been opened! You can also admire water dragons, crocodiles, snakes, lizards and frogs. And if they aren’t your thing, how about coming face to face with possums, wallabies, pigs, water buffalo, goats and miniature ponies? They are all under one roof and there’s plenty to do for children in between enjoying the beautiful birds and animals. The Butterfly and Wildlife Park is open daily until the beginning of November. Baytree Owl Centre The Baytree Garden Centre is home to one of the largest and most varied selection of owls in the United Kingdom. Open to the public, visitors will find the Owl Centre within a 25 acre complex at Weston, two miles east of Spalding. People of all ages can see over 100 owls covering 36 different species and view flying displays which take place between 1-3pm each day. Here you can sit back and watch in awe as the birds swoop down in complete silence - some will even fly direct into your hand! A number of birds can also be handled by visitors under the supervision of resident curator Steve Pannell. Owls at the centre have proved very popular with children and several have been adopted by local schools who are invited on educational visits. Visitors can take their pick from a number of owl gifts to suit young and old and every pocket - and there’s even equipment on sale for the would-be falconer.
