The ultimate horticultural, retail and leisure experience has arrived in Spalding. The Springfields Outlet Shopping and Festival Gardens offers visitors the chance to enjoy celebrity designed gardens and shop for brand names available at great discounts through outlet stores. The site, which was opened in 2004, has over 40 retail outlets including brand names such as Marks and Spencer, Clarks, Pilot, Costa Coffee and much much more. The Fenscape Visitor Attraction, opened during the summer of 2004, is also based on the Springfields site and will provide visitors with an interactive attraction telling the story of the reclamation of the Fens over the years. Individual specialist shops are scattered all over the Fens, ranging from health food stores to hand made furniture shops. Quaint little lanes in and around the towns offer shops, pubs and cafes with a real distinctive fenland character. Lloyd Loom have a factory outlet at Pinchbeck on the outskirts of Spalding. Fenland butchers selling their own-made traditional Lincolnshire Sausages, cold meats, pies and plum bread are excellent. Tempt yourself from the local bakeries where delicious bread and cakes are still generally made on the premises – one in particular still using the 1916 coal-fired, steam-heated oven installed by his grandfather. |
